Jenny Golsby

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting one of The Dog Listeners Zoë Thayer.

I grew up around dogs on a large property and have always had them in my life.

Over the past 15 years I have become very active in the dog world and thought I had a good grasp on our Canine Companion – how wrong I was.

I have read books on behaviour, attended seminars on different training methods including check chains and electric collars and Trainers who I thought knew it all. I have also been on the other side taking Puppy classes, Basic obedience and Advanced levels of obedience but something was always missing.

I have a pack consisting of 6 dogs (their breeds are irrelevant) but lets just say they range from Large and powerful through to very small. All of these dogs have come to me after being abandoned, abused or just not wanted.

I thought my pack was happy and well adjusted.A pack of dogs of various breeds

Then along came Zoë who taught me about “Pack Structure and Good Leadership” something I had never heard talked about on this level. The method is Amichien Bonding.

Zoë taught me how to be a good leader by applying all 4 foundations to my pack with the most amazing results. The great thing about what Zoë does is it is non confrontational. I have been taught by Zoë to learn the Canine language and live through their eyes.

Recently (9 months) ago I took in an 8 year old dog with major issues. Toy obsession, food obsession and aggression, human and dog aggression and loads of energy. My world was turned upside down.

Normally methods used to try and change his behaviour would have been negative and what I see now as bullying and cruel.

She taught me “dogs fear what they don’t understand”

We still have a very long way to go but in 3 short months I have seen the most amazing progression towards a well adjusted dog who will eventually live a happy and calm life. During this process I have observed the change in the other 5 dogs as well.

In my line of work I have seen many dogs euthanased for these reasons but with Zoë’s help and guidance I am able to save this dogs life from abuse or death

Zoë is a woman who dedicates herself to not only helping dogs but helping owners to understand their dogs. She is full of information, always ready to help and advise and very consistent in her work.

This is a whole new road I have taken and now feel I have found the missing link.
